Concussions in kids sports was the focus of a forum on Saturday in Fresno.

It was the first-ever concussion symposium in the valley.

Health care leaders from local hospitals and Fresno State came together to talk about the best treatment for young athletes who suffer concussions.

"Research shows there's an increase in the number of concussions. But there's been a law that all kids that if they are suspected of a concussion they have to sit out, they cannot go back into the game on the same day and they have to be screened by a medical professional that has some training in concussions before they go back to play. So that's why we're trying to educate people in that," said Peggy Trueblood from Fresno State.

The goal of the symposium was to educate school staff and those working in the health care industry.
