"We were watching TV and we heard like three or four gunshots," said apartment resident Brenda Chaidez.
Chaidez is one of many still trying to understand the violent scene that played out in a South East Fresno apartment complex near Kings Canyon and Willow, ultimately leaving three dead and at least one child parentless.
"I looked out my window and just saw the guy lying there," said a witness who wished to remain off camera.
The man witnesses saw lying in the street was 22-year old Gerome Dixon. Fresno Police say he was shot and killed by 50-year old Anthony Jackson shortly after seven Friday night and less than ten minutes later investigators sayJackson opened fire again. This time he fatally wounded 38-year old Cynthia Walkins, the mother of his child.
Detectives sayJackson later took his own life around two Saturday morning. A simple note issued by apartment management described the incident as an act of domestic violence. Fresno Police have not released a motive but a neighbor who declined to go on camera says Jackson had been acting odd in the days leading up to the shooting.
“For like the past few days it was like he had his nose turned up to the sky and I said hi one day and it was like he didn't even see me," said the witness.
