With the final seconds ticking away, optimism faded to disappointment at Buffalo Wild Wings in Fresno as it became clear to Fresno State Fans that the Bulldogs would again be one and done.
"We had a lot of chances and they didn't go down," said fan George Armenta.
Fans like Armenta knew going in it would be an uphill battle against the number two seeded Cal Bears and early on it looked like the bulldogs were poised for a possible upset.
"They are doing wonderful. Ki-Ki is scoring great and the rest are supporting her," said fan Barbara Troisi.
AFresno State fan for more than 30-years, Barbara Troisi was hopeful this would be the year the bulldog women would snap their streak of five straight first round losses.
Unfortunately for Troisi and the rest of the fans in attendance, it wasn't to be. The Cal Bears proved to be deserving of their number two seed and the Bulldogs were soundly defeated.
But while their season ended on a sour note, many fans were just happyFresno State was in the national spotlight.
"We love getting on national TV, giving these girls credit, the coaching staff, we have a new coaching staff who has done a fantastic job and they are playing really well and continuing to be champions," said fan Dan Bushey.
