A vote is set on whether to privatize home trash pick-up in the City of Fresno.

The county signed off on the special election Tuesday and in an unusual move, the county asked the city to pay for some of the cost of the election up front.

The normally bills for reimbursement after an election is held.

The City of Fresno agreed to pay the county a total of $250,000 before the election is held.

County Supervisor Phil Larson said, "We've got three elections in 60 days. We've never had to face that before and those elections cost about a million bucks a piece."

The county wanted the city to combine the trash vote with the special election to fill the seat of State Senator Michael Rubio, who resigned to take a job with Chevron, but the city would not agree to that plan.

Fresno's special election on trash pickup is set for June 4th.
