On a day that has become synonymous with drinking and celebrating everything Irish, Officer Joe Ploharz is doing neither.
"Saint Patrick's Day and the super bowl, it just seems like people party it up," said Ploharz.
He is one of about eleven extra Fresno Police Department Officers out on patrol for drunk drivers. And on one of the biggest drinking nights of the year, he doesn't have to go far. A failed breathalyzer later, a man is under arrest and for Officer Mark Jacayan it's the same old story.
"Just based on his driving and his symptoms I had him exit his vehicle,” said Jacayan.
A sour ending to one man's Saint Patrick's Day. But Jacayan hopes others will make better decisons and choose to bring a designated driver.
