Fresno State Bulldogs fans packed Dog House Grill to cheer on the Bulldogs as they matched up against the Spartans in San Jose.

But the mood quickly changed toward the end of the game.

The Spartans handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, ending Bulldogs 52, Spartans 62.

Throughout the day, the excitement ran high.

On this Black Friday, Bulldog football is just as much a part of the Thanksgiving weekend as the other festivities for Fresno State fans.

"Actually, a lot of us live in San Francisco, and we're back here for Thanksgiving. And we all wanted to come to Dog House [Grill], the number one spot to watch the game," said Nicole Khodabandeh, a Fresno State alumna.

The Bulldog pride runs deep.

The Engleka couple has had season tickets for decades.

"It's been great. We follow them in the bad years and the good years. We've had season tickets since 1982," said Merle Engleka, a Fresno State fan.

The Bulldogs ranked 16 in BCS standings. Up until Friday's defeat, some felt the Bulldogs weren't getting the credit they deserved.

"Even though it's supposedly computer generated, there's got to be some human factor in it somewhere," said Jim Forte, a season ticket holder who watched Friday's game at Dog House Grill.

"I think they [the BCS] want all East Coast guys. That's my opinion anyway," added Judy Engleka.

No matter the outcome, Fresno State can say they have a loyal fan base-- selling out three home games this season.

The Bulldogs will play in Fresno Dec. 7 for the Mountain West Conference game.

The holiday shopping season is now in full swing so security has been beefed up around the Valley.

Clovis Police and other valley agencies are making sure would-be thieves don't target shoppers.  Officers are patrolling all of the major shopping centers around the clock and also cracking down on drivers breaking laws out on the streets.

"The more eyes and the more visibilIty you have the better odds you're going to have on preventing something or catching someone who is up to no good," said Officer Jared Binford, Clovis Police Dept.

Police say you can protect yourself from becoming a target, by parking in well lit areas, always walking with someone and by locking up valuables in your trunk to keep them out of sight.

Police arrested Secundino Soto, 22, who is accused of breaking into an elderly woman's home while she slept and stealing her car and other items.

Helen Kornoff, 88, woke up in her Northeast Fresno home to find her garage door open and her Toyota Avalon missing.

While police were able to arrest Soto and return her items, she says her sense of security is now gone.

"To think that somebody was that close to you and could do something like that. They could've just as easy cut my throat," Kornoff said.

At about the same time Kornoff noticed that her car was missing, police were arresting Soto in Southeast Fresno. Several neighbors called police to report a man driving recklessly.

"The call was that a guy, Hispanic male in his 20s, was doing donuts in the roadway," said Sgt. Mike Smith with the Fresno Police Department.

Police found the car parked and returned it to Kornoff.

Other people found Kornoff's wallet and other items in their yard and brought them to her by using the address on her ID.

Kornoff spent the day shook up. She took inventory of her belongings and counted her blessings.

"Of course when I think somebody broke into my house, my first thought is my kids," Kornoff said while petting a cat that sat in her lap. "I call this my children."

She said she's grateful she wasn't physically hurt. Kornoff lives alone since her husband died a few years ago. She said she has not one blood relative alive.

"She was in tears when the officer arrived. She just hugged him, and she was really, really upset," Smith said.

He added that Soto has a lengthy criminal record, and had several warrants for his arrest for theft.

Soto is being held on a bail of about $60,000.

The helicopter used by Fresno Police Department is similar to the one that crashed in Scotland.

Flight crews attribute rigid maintenance schedules and strict safety guidelines with keeping them safe.

But say preparation for the unknown is something they never leave the ground without.

"If we have a problem with the helicopter in the sky we pretty much have to land. Sometimes we have to land right where we are. So as pilots we are always looking at the ground for places to land should we have an issue," said Sgt. Larry Hustedde from the Fresno Police Department.

Many law enforcement agencies including the CHP and LAPD also use a model similar to the one that crashed in Glasgow, Scotland.
