Fresno’s Huntington Boulevard neighborhood was built to showcase electricity. Fifty-two lamp posts line a grassy area between divided traffic, where electric streetcar tracks once stretched from downtown to the countryside.
Residents are repainting every lamppost. They will be black with gold detailing – the same colors they’ve been since the 1980s.
Resident Penny Raven says, “Before the 1980s they had been painted a gray that was actually leftover paint from World War II battleships.”
Huntington Boulevard is well-known for bright holiday decorations. But visitors come year-round to the quiet street next to downtown.
Nearby worker Kay Cone says, “It's not anything like the office setting where we work so it's a nice break from the office.”
The fresh paint isn’t the only new sight coming to this old neighborhood. New sequined red bows are ready for every lamp post, once the new paint is dry.
