Carnival to benefit sick kids

It’s an extensive set up for a seven year old's birthday party, but this isn't just any party, for any kid.

“I'm saving money for the Make-A-Wish foundation,” said Cole Blanchfield, the birthday boy.

His mom admits it was her idea to do something for others, but Cole chose the charity and the party soon became bigger than she envisioned.

“We have a very philanthropic family and I think it's important to raise our kids that way.  The fact that Cole has such a big heart makes me very proud,” said Jessica Blanchfield.

You wouldn't know it by watching Cole play today, but he had a very aggressive form of pneumonia several years ago.

“I was two years old and I was very sick and I went to the hospital,” said Cole.

Five years ago he spent his birthday in the hospital.  Now he's thinking of other kids who're in the same boat.  His goal is to raise $5,000 for them.

The executive director of Make-A-Wish Central California says the money will grant a wish for a very deserving child.

“Wishes come through the door every day.  We're doing 107 this year but we know there are over 300 kids diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses every year,” said Rambo.

On average, it costs about $5,000 to grant one wish.  Cole will help choose the beneficiary.

The carnival is Friday from 6-9pm at Railroad Park, on Peach and Alluvial in Clovis.
