This meet brought people from all over the state, many who are not used to the heat.

We've had the past couple of days, so it put athletes and fans to the test.

It's a little different from San Jose. San Jose weather is a little cooler.

I'm loving it. It's great. I love the sun.

In lane six inside Veterans Memorial Stadium high school athletes from all over California competed.

We spoke to a pole vaulter from the San Diego area about performing in the hot conditions.

It's hard. It's hot, but I just make sure to drink a lot of water and wear sunscreen so I don't get sunburned.

Athletes also care for themselves by stretching well and staying in the shade.

Coach Lee Web sees yesterday's extreme temperature of 104 actually benefiting finalists.

Coach Web, “Your body adapts fast. I don't know if it adapts in one day, but it does adapt quickly so you prepare yourself a little better the second day around.”

The ones hampered the most by the heat are the long distance runners.

The sprinters really like hot weather. It's easier for us to warm up and run fast in.

Take it from Maurice Greene, he's currently the coach of Alta Christian High School just east of Los Angeles, but was once an Olympic sprinter who set the world record in the 100 meters.

Maurice Greene, “I give it all to my team. I give them all of my knowledge and everything else so they can go out here and compete well.”

Around 14,000 people made their way through here over the course of the last two days.
