Fresno's Community Regional Medical Center is among 13 hospitals being fined by the state.

CRMC was fined $50,000 dollars by the California Department of Public Health.

It's for the death of a patient two years ago. There was an overdose of a blood-thinning drug.

The money from the state fines could go into a special fund to improve the quality of health care.

Debby Rodgers with the CA Department of Public Health, “We currently have a proposal before the legislature right now in the budget process that would allocate some of these funds to medication errors which is the second most prevalent event that we see in administrative penalties.”

In response to the fine Community Regional Medical Center issued this statement tonight, "Our physicians and staff have worked hard to prevent any similar occurrence by tightening procedures and expanding internal education."
