Members of the Fresno Teachers Association are upset. Karen Yelton Curtis has been a teacher at McLane High for six years; she says program cuts are having a negative impact on students.
"We need to restore some of those support programs that have been effective for our students in the past, we want our students to know there's more to our high school than standardize testing," said Curtis.
Members of FTA are putting a lot of the blame on McLane's principal Scott Lamm- saying he lacks leadership. The district released a statement regarding the accusation, in part it says, "It is important to note that Principal Scott Lamm has a history of raising student achievement at every school under his leadership."
Paul Germain has been a teacher for the district for 23 years and 6 years at McLane High. He says McLane High faces a lot of challenges but Mr. Lamm is not to blame.
"He has come in just full of passion and vigor and having that dream of really restoring it and I share that dream and I think it's completely possible," said Germain.
The district says fewer students are going to McLane next school year resulting in staff being moved to other schools, they also say the cuts are unavoidable due to slashed budgets.
According to the district, the state has cut their budget 100-million over the past 3 years.
