It appears a dry Christmas tree may have sparked a blaze near the area of Alluvial and Polk Avenues in Northwest Fresno.
Firefighters were called to the 5600 block of Decatur Avenue around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the home.
A smoke detector alerted the family to the blaze and they managed to get out safely.
Battalion Chief Casey Clark with the Fresno Fire Department said, "They did have a tree that was a cut tree from a Christmas tree lot and had become dry after a couple of weeks of being in the house. They did have Christmas tree lights on it that were on at the time."
Firefighters say, now that Christmas is over, you should dispose of your tree.
