24 hours after 16-year-old Jesus Espinoza was killed, friends showed up with a cross to remember hiim.

"I dont think anybody should lose their life, and to know that it someone close to us," said Sergio Perez, one of the victim's friends.

Following the shooting, the Madera Police Department planned two gang sweeps for Thursday to curb what they're calling a spike in gang activity.

"If you're a gang member and you're out on the streets in our community tonight, you're going to jail," said Detective Sgt. Dino Lawson.

One of the three suspects involved in the point blank shooting that killed the teen got away and the gun was not found. Police say one of the two gang members that were arrested is the shooter. All of the suspects, Espinoza, and his friend that wasn't hurt are validated gang members with criminal histories.

"I dont know, I mean he might have gotten with the wrong crowd. but he seemed like a cool kid," said Perez.

The victim and suspects in custody were students at Enterprise Secondar School, a continuation school, after being kicked out of Madera Unified School District. MUSD begins gang prevention programs in the 4th grade, working with Police, students and educators.

"To producation awareness intervention," said Jake Bragonier, a spokesperson with Madera Unified.

As far as motive for the shooting, "One gang dislikes the other gang and they dont need any reason at all," said Sgt. Lawson.

Friends are planning a candle light vigil Thursday night.
