Staff members at all 23 California State University campuses will began voting on Monday on whether or not they should strike.
The strike would happen if the faculty can't reach a contract agreement with the CSU system.
Over the last few years, California universities have been dealing with drastic budget cuts.
Voting will run for two weeks and then the California Faculty Association's board could authorize a 2-day strike.
The union represents professors, librarians, coaches and counselors for the 23 campuses in the CSU system.
