Wednesday, inside his home gym, Orr watched the replay, still in a state of disbelief.
The 5’11” senior point guard is known for hitting three-pointers, but never like this.
“The ball popped out to me… about 40 feet away, and I turned around and took a shot,” said Orr.
The 54-52 win over Long Beach Poly is the talk of the school Wednesday. The sign outside says “congratulations.” One player says even teachers are excited.
“Everyone was talking about it. Just in first period, our teacher told me to do a worksheet and she had the video replaying over and over on the white board,” said basketball player, James Girado.
Head coach Tony Amundsen says Orr’s game-winning shot was the greatest moment is his coaching career thus far. He's proud of Orr, not just for what he did in two seconds, but for what he's done over the course of two years.
“[He’s] a great kid and I couldn't be happier for him. He struggled last year and didn't get a whole lot of playing time, but he kept working and got better and better and now he's one of our main guys,” said Amundsen.
