San Joaquin River Named Most Endangered

        The American Rivers Organization has named the San Joaquin River as the most endangered in the U.S.
        Each year, the group names the top ten rivers with the most uncertain futures.        
        the San Joaquin River is the largest river in Central California.
        But now, it's use is threatened... topping the list for the most endangered river in the nation.
        In response to drought conditions, republicans in the house have approved a water bill that aims to ease federal environmental regulations.
        In 2006, farmers, water districts and environmentalists settled after 18 years of lawsuits over water allocations.
        Now, the San Joaquin River Restoration Program mandates that water flow through the river to restore salmon and other wildlife.
        Water from the San Joaquin River also supports drinking water in Fresno and other nearby communities.
        Gary Serrato with the Fresno Irrigation District says he doesn't believe this designation will change anything.
        But all sides agree, there is a balance that needs to be achieved to satisfy agricultural, municipal and environmental interests for everyone in California.
