Bella Pasta opened its doors Wednesday evening to host a large fundraiser dinner.
"We're open normally, so for us to do this is simple and easy," said Fabian Rodriguez of Bella Pasta.
The crowd, mostly made up of Fresno Police officers and their families, were here to help their fellow brother, officer Jon Linzey.
"It's humbling and it's great," said Jon Linzey.
Linzey was suffering from Chiari Malformation. It's a condition in which brain tissue extends into your spinal canal causing pressure that leads to extreme pain.
Last month, Linzey underwent surgery at UC San Francisco to remove a cyst on his spinal chord which had been giving him severe headaches for the past year.
"I thought the headaches were just a normal everyday thing and i was just stuck with it," said Linzey.
He's now feeling better, but the relief is costing him tens of thousands of dollars. So all of the money from pasta and pizza plates, as well as gift baskets being raffled off is going straight to the Linzey family.
Raven Masse is a close friend of theirs.
"We've never been through anything like this before, so I don't know what they're going through. I can only hope that what we're doing will help them," said Raven Masse, a family friend.
The non-profit group, Beside the Blue Foundation, organized this event.
"We help pay medical bills, medical travel and loss of income," Sarah Rothwell of Beside the Blue Foundation.
Beside the Blue was created last year ago and it's already raised $130,000 for law enforcement families across the country. Sarah Rothwell is truly amazed.
"To see what was once an idea and dream in our heads to turn into activities like this," said Rothwell.
Support like this has Officer Linzey eager to return to duty.
"I'm hoping it's somewhere in the middle of August. I belong in the police car, I love this community, I love Fresno and I love helping them out.
