Battling Fear

92-year old Josef Martin survived four battles in world war two, but it's the stress from a robbery at his southeast Fresno home last October that won't seem to go away.

"I get nightmares and I see the guy's face," said Josef Martin, the robbery victim.

Investigators say a group of boys comprised of a couple 15-year olds and a 12-year old broke into Martin's house at 2 a.m. as he slept in bed.

"I woke up and had that gun shoved in my ribs.  I looked up and he said hush.  I heard it click and I said good lord don't pull that (expletive) trigger," said Martin.

Martin says the gunman pistol whipped his head and then shoved him into his closet.

"I went head first into the closet.  Made a hole in the wall with my head and I'm still bothered with headaches," said Martin.

The hole is still there because martin doesn't have the money to fix it.  He says it's a sore reminder of how different the world is today than when he grew up.

"Kids nowadays are big bullies.  They want to show their authority.  In my time we had a lot of respect for older people.  Now kids don't respect their parents," said Martin.

The thieves took cash and stole precious military items like medals and a ring.  Martin has not recovered anything.

"It ruined my life for no cause at all," said Martin.

Thursday in court, 16-year old, Keith Scott, pleaded guilty to residential robbery.  He's now locked up at the Juvenile Justice Campus in Fresno County.  In June, he could be senteced to 5 years in juvenile prison.  Scott says he regrets his crime.  Martin says, he should.

"I just hope the law takes care of them because they would just hurt somebody down the line again.  I just hope they get the full punishment," said Martin.

The 12-year old boy has been sentenced to one year in a rehab program.  The 15-year old, whom investigators say used the gun against Martin, has not begun his trial.  A decision still needs to be made whether or not to charge him as an adult.
