A freight train struck a pickup truck on the tracks near Belmont and Hayes in West Fresno Tuesday morning.
The intersection does not have railroad crossing arms and is only identified with a warning sign.
The truck was pushed down the tracks for several hundred feet before the conductor was able to stop.
The driver of the truck was pinned inside the vehicle and required emergency crews to cut the cab to free him.
The victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with serious to critical injuries.
A 3-month-old Bullmastiff puppy was also in the truck but was not seriously injured. The puppy was taken to the SPCA for medical care and shelter.
