Governor Brown and President Obama saw first-hand the dry fields in California on Friday.

Five days later, the governor promised more than 650-million dollars in relief for communities and businesses impacted by the drought.

"Today is a call for action. The state is going to do it's part. But we're asking all the citizens to do their part," Brown said in a news conference in Sacramento.

The governor is proposing legislation that would provide 687-million dollars in drought relief. 549-million for water storage and conservation. And 25-million in assistance for food banks.

"The dollars that the governor is proposing will help," Manuel Cunha with the Nisei Farmers league said.

Cunha is happy to hear there is money to help people survive in the hardest hit areas. And that there is money for water storage. Cunha was at the round table meeting with President Obama on Friday.

"There was discussion about storage. we need it. Based upon the climatic conditions, we may not get as much snow in the future but we may get a lot of rain. So let's preserve that rain and store it," Cunha said.

Democratic leaders in the state assembly and senate said they can get the assistance package passed in a few weeks. The democratic governor urged both political parties to work together.

"This is a time to pull together as Californians first to rise above a lot of divisions that pull us apart. Because we don't know how long this is going to last," Brown said.
