Monday night, a fundraiser forum was held at the Riverdale Fire Department in response to a wreck from Saturday night.
29-year old Esmeralda Saucedo, 11-year old Breanna Reyes, 6-year old Jada Saucedo, 3-year old Nikko Saucedo and 1-year old Isaac Saucedo were killed while driving home from a birthday party.
Investigators say 41-year old Juana Jejarano was driving 60 mph in her mini-van when she ran a stop sign at Marks and Excelsior and crashed into Saucedo's SUV. Bejarano survived, but is hospitalized with major injuries. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have play a role in the wreck.
At the fire station, fundraising coordinator, Melissa Todd, explained to dozens of people her plan to raise $6,000 for the Saucedo family. Meal tickets will be pre-sold for food from Sal's Mexican Restaurant, which volunteered to donate 600 fancy burrito casserole dinners.
"It was very kind of Carl Salazar to make an exception for this community for their cause," said Melissa Todd, Fundraising Coordinator.
"It's a sad story in a hollywood film, but for it to happen in real life to a friend, it's a tragedy," said Thong Pham, a friend of the Saucedo family.
Pham spent time with Joesph Saucedo the day after the wreck. Joesph was following his family in a separate car as saw the crash happen. He burned and bruised his arms trying to save his family from their burning SUV.
"I personally believe he's the strongest man in america right now or in the world," said Pham.
On Tuesday, a memorial fund is expected to be setup for Joseph through Bank of the West.
Tickets for the Mexican Food Meal will be sold Tuesday and Wednesday at the Riverdale Fire Department from 7 pm - 8 pm. The cost is $10 each.
Meals will be picked up on Saturday between 11 am - 2pm at Fipps Primary School in Riverdale. It's also going to be the site of a baked goods and crafts sale.
Meanwhile, a car wash fundraiser will take place saturday in Fresno from 10 am to 6 pm at the corner of Kings Canyon and Cedar, next to the Long John Silver's restaurant.
