Three men have been arrested in Merced after they assaulted two police officers and a police K-9.
Around 12:30a.m. Sunday an officer heard yelling and then saw three individuals on the sidewalk of the 400 Block of West 18th St.
Two of those individuals were involved in a struggle.
The officer then contacted the subjects and observed that they were extremely intoxicated and one of them had blood coming from his ear.
As additional units arrived the officer took one of the subjects into custody.
It was at that time that one of the subjects went towards the officer.
Another had to intervene to prevent harm to his fellow officer.
The third subject then began to kick and punch one of the officers in the face.
The other officer deployed the K-9 officer to help control the aggressive subjects, the dog was punched in the head by one of the subjects.
Officers eventually got all three subjects into custody.
One officer received lacerations and contusions to the face, he was transported to the hospital.
The other officer received minor injuries and was treated with a first-aid kit.
The K-9 officer was checked and did not appear to be injured.
All three suspects were transported to the hospital for minor injuries and then booked into the Merced County Sheriff's Department Correctional Facility.
The suspects have been identified as Nathan Schindler, Cody Griess and Michael Stucky.
