A man is shot by a Fresno County Sheriffs Deputy after he allegedly tried to force two women into a vehicle.
The officer involved shooting happened on Nebraska Avenue between Dewolf and Temperance.

The shooting happened in the backyard of a home on the 8400 block of Nebraska Avenue. One neighbor says he was on his way to work when it all went down.

Shawn Hargrove says, "As we were driving by I saw an officer with a rifle out so I knew then that something was wrong."

Deputies say a woman called 911 just before 11 a.m. and reported an armed man on her property.

Fresno Co. Sheriff Deputy Chris Curtice says, "They observed a Hispanic male subject armed with a shotgun who was apparently trying to force 2 females into a vehicle."

Deputies say they ordered the suspect to put his gun down. He allegedly let the two women go and then turned his shotgun toward deputies.  That's when an officer fired one round.

Curtice says, "We are conditioned to respond accordingly anytime someone points a gun at you."

The man was shot once in his torso and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. It's still unclear why the suspect was at the home, or if he, or the two women knew anyone living there . Baldev Josan has lived in the area for 14 years.

Josan says, "I was worried because I know all the neighbors there and we stick together and know each other and I was worried if anybody got killed."

Part of Nebraska Avenue was closed off to traffic Monday while investigators tried to piece the puzzle together. Until then, the shooting and events that led up to it still remain a puzzling thought.

Hargrove says, "Nothing like this ever happens here but I guess it can happen anywhere."
