A mobile home fire leaves three people hospitalized, including a Fresno Police Officer who saved a woman's life.

The fire started at 8:50am at the Sunset West Mobile Home Park near Parkway and Shields in Fresno.  The cause has not been determined.

Fresno Firefighters work to put out hot spots in what's left of a mobile home.  They say the 64-year-old woman who lives here almost didn't make it out.  She had collapsed on the porch when a witness and police officer, Steve Coleman, found her.

"[They] ran to the back, got a piece of wood to shield them from the flames and heat, and went over to her and pulled her to safety," said Terri Meiss of the Fresno Fire Department.

The victim suffered second and third degree burns on half her body.  The officer went to the hospital to get checked out.  Meanwhile, the fire spread to a mobile home nextdoor.

"I heard the explosions and the flames were about 30 feet high," said Leon Saghatelian, a neighbor.  Saghatelian said he noticed another victim, an 80-year-old man, who was trying to get out of his burning home.  He helped him get away from the fire.

Witnesses describe the scene as smoke-filled and chaotic.  The boyfriend of the female victim said he left their home about 15 minutes before the fire.  He came back when he heard sirens.

"I saw smoke everywhere.  I was just trying to find out if she got out all right," said James Thomas, the victim's boyfriend.

A body of an animal was found in the woman’s home.

Damage estimates are $50,000.
