Mammoth fossils were moved from storage in Madera to Merced.
The bones were found last year at a construction project along Highway 99 in Merced.
Caltrans is working with UC Merced to preserve the ice age fossils which include the remains of all sorts of mammals.
"We have one femur here, we have the other femur, we have most of this mammoth's skeleton. We also have lots of camels. Most people don't know that camels are native to North America. So we have camels, we have llamas, we have horses, we have bison," says Sherri Gust from Cogstone Resource Management.
The old bones will be housed at UC Merced's Castle Facility.
They'll be stabilized and eventually put on display at some point students may be able to conduct research with them.
