In all, four people have been shot in Winton. The Merced County Sheriff's Department said the shootings that occured last Friday were random,
but believe Thursday's was targeted.
Wilda Thornhill's home is near where a 29-year-old man a 48-year-old woman were shot in their car Thursday afternoon around 2.
"It makes me nervous to have somebody shot right down the road," said Thornhill.
Some of the debris is still on the road near Oakdale and Fisher road. The sheriff's department believes it was drug related and the two were targeted.
"The victims were supposedly looking for an illegal marijuana grow, the suspects thought that they were going to do a ripoff," said Merced County Sheriff, Mark Pazin.
Information is limited until the investigation is complete, but Sheriff Pazin said they do have more than one suspect they're looking for. He's also working on a proposal before the Board of Supervisors that will help deter drug crime in the area.
"What makes this particularly dangerous obviously is that we seem to have again, this callous and arbitrary shootings," said Sheriff Pazin.
They said Thursday's shooting is not related to the two other shootings that occurred last Friday in Winton. Duputies are still on the hunt for the group of two to three suspects who they said shot a man at random and then minutes later shot a woman. She died a few days later.
Winton residents say they'll keep a watchful eye.
"I used to think it was a safe place, but now I'm beginning to wonder," said Thornhill.
The Sheriff's Department said they'll have extra deputies out on patrol in Winton.
