Folks came together tonight at Fresno High to bring down the bunkers.
The two buildings known as the “bunkers” are being demolished and as CBS 47's Lemor Abrams shows us, the community got a chance to be a part of it.
Students were there to have some fun with a goggles, hard hats, and sledgehammers.
“It felt good,” said John Taylor.
But the alumni showed up on a mission...to take down the infamous bunker buildings.
“We were just all aghast all aghast when they built these bunkers they're just so hideous,” said Doris Bosch.
It's $5 per swing and it all goes to a good cause.
“To help support anything from softball to ROTC,” said Principal John Forbes.
And on that note, Principal John Forbes took a swing...at his own office.
“That felt really good...we do it for the kids,” he said.
The bunkers were built in the '70's to make room for the library and administration staff but the buildings developed a bad reputation immediately.
“We used to play football out here; this is all were we courted our girlfriends...it was a beautiful area...then they built these bunkers,” said Jack Fowler of the Alumni Committee.
Jack Fowler pulled out the history books...
He says the new buildings will be designed like the majestic Royce Hall, built in the ‘20's.
But business wasn't complete, until students signed the good ol' library wall.
