High temperatures mean high pressure on the state’s power grid.

PG&E issued a flex alert in response to the heat wave, asking customers up and down Northern and
Central California to turn off the lights andair conditioning when possible.

Many local manufactures and retail stores are participating…

Schneider Electric is turning off lights and shifting employee schedules to come in earlier in the day.

Target in Clovis is turning off 50% of the lights during late afternoon shopping hours.

“We're talking about larger unusually industrial or manufacturing business that because of the nature of the business take a heavy load from the system,” said PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles.

“Overall we're helping save but I think our guests actually enjoy it...getting out of the hot sunlight,” said Target Store Manager Nick Sampson.

PG&E also encourages customers to adjust the thermostat at home to 78 degrees or higher.

At the Sierra Vista movie theatre, people waited in the sun...in a never-ending line...

Partly for $5 Tuesdays...mainly for relief.

The theatre was so coo, some came in long sleeves!

We caught up with a couple visiting from Nepal...where daily blackouts are the norm.

“Atleast 8 hours a day we have blackouts... [because] just not enough power,” said the visitor.

PG&E hopes California’s power grid can hold it together through the heat wave.
