Gay couples lined up early on Monday to get married after approval to resume same-sex marriages in California was given late Friday afternoon.
The Fresno County Clerk's office began granting marriage licenses and performing gay marriages Monday morning.
The Supreme Court let the ban stand on Proposition 8 early Friday morning and the appellate court lifted the stay on gay marriages in the state later that day.
One couple showed up at the clerk's office at 4:30 a.m. Monday morning and there was a line waiting when they opened.
The county clerk says around 20 couples came through in the first couple hours to get their marriage license, and many of them got married there.
The clerk's office says they are ready to handle a large crowd and even opened about 15 minutes early on Monday and are fully staffed. They even had two volunteers to help with paperwork and perform ceremonies.
A marriage license is $49 and it takes about 30 minutes to process from the time a couple walks in the door.
The county clerk's office is open until 5:00 pm, but if you're planning on getting married, you need to be there by 4:00 p.m.
