Pools across Fresno and cooling centers are helping many beat the heat wave, like 9-year-old, Tesla.  She has her own method of keeping cool with a baby wipe.

"I got it because when I walked out the door today it was hot and I couldn't stand the heat," said Tesla.

More than 60 kids arrived to make a splash in the Mosqueda Community Center pool in Fresno within the first two hours of opening. The cooling centers along with several pools across Fresno are open for free as long as it's hotter than 105 degrees.  Kids may not know the exact temperature, but they know it's blistering.

Dora Melendrez appreciates being able to give her kids and grandchildren something active to do at no cost.

"I think that is so awesome, because a lot of people don't have two pennies to rub together," said Melendrez.

The heat can be extremely dangerous and PG&E tell us this is not a time to try to save energy if your home is too hot indoors.

"If you can't run your air conditioner at home or it doesn't have an air conditioner, we recommend taking advantage of one of the cooling centers the city has open," said Denny Boyles, PG&E Spokesman.

Elderly people are especially at risk during this time and should be looked after.  People can expect to take advantage of the free facilities until around Wednesday or throughout the heat wave.
