Another school year comes to an end, which means thousands of teens are looking for work.
Unfortunately there are not enough jobs to place all of them, so candidates need to do more than just fill out an application.
Sunnyside High School's vice principal, Mark Beebe said, "...how to present themselves, how to interview, what questions might be asked in the interview..."
That's what the faculty at Sunnyside High School is working on with their Job Readiness Program.
Whether teens are applying for a job at a fast food restaurant, grocery store, or something else, many places require a little more enthusiasm if you want a job. "Bottom line... you never get a second chance to make a first impression," said Beebe.
That first impression is important because the employment policies institute reports that one in four teens will be unemployed this summer.
Things could be even harder in California, which expects a 33.1% unemployment rate among teens this summer, which ranks second in the country behind South Carolina.
School counselors say the key to landing a summertime job may be persistence, and a positive attitude.
