33-year old Valerie Olivarez is recovering in the hospital following a murder-suicide at her home early Monday morning.
It happened on Clyde Avenue near Road 130 in Orosi.
The Tulare County Sheriff's Department says a 63-year old man shot two of his daughters, killing one of them. He then turned the gun on himself.
“Yeah it was pretty crazy this morning,” said Felicia Marroquin, a friend of Jennifer Kimble.
Felicia Marroquin knew Jennifer Kimble. The 37-year old woman whom investigators say was shot and killed by her father, Anthony Alvarez.
“She was always with her kids. She had them in sports and was a good mother. I can't even imagine my kids being without me. It's terrible,” said Marroquin.
Kimble's three children, ages 13, 11 and 8, were inside the house when their grandfather allegedly shot their mother and aunt then shot himself. The youngest girl then called 911.
“Our heart goes out to her. She had to take a brave step to do that with regard to what was happening in her home at the time,” said Sgt. Chris Douglass of the Tulare Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
Neighbors say Kimble moved in to the home after her mother passed away to help her dad take care of her disabled sister Valerie. Neighbor, Cesario Gonzalez is disabled himself.
“It's hard as it is and to do something like that it's totally wrong,” said Cesario Gonzalez, a neighbor.
It's not clear as to what pushed Anthony Alvarez over the edge. A Marine and Vietnam veteran who received many awards including the Purple Heart.
“That was the worst part. It's on Memorial Day and we don't know what happened,” said Melissa Gutierrez, a neighbor.
The three children are now staying with their father. He had already left the house for work at the time of the shootings.
