A huge fire ripped through two dozen rooms at the Oakhurst Lodge causing over $1 million in damage.

The fire started just after midnight on Thursday in one wing of the facility located on Highway 41 and Avenue 426 in Oakhurst.

All 25 rooms in that wing were destroyed by fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the 60-room facility.

24 of the 25 rooms were occupied and all guests did get out safely.

Highway 41 was closed for a time but has since been reopened.

The blaze forced firefighters to back away and attack from the outside for safety reasons.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Chris Christopherson said, "With all of that happening the building is unsafe and we've had to evacuate all the fire crews from inside the building and we're now attacking the fire from the outside where the firefighters' safety is our main priority."

The Red Cross is now assisting the dozens of people that were staying at the lodge.
