A memorial to honor the victims of the September 11th attacks in 2001 now has a new home.

The California Memorial Museum reopened Friday inside the Veterans Memorial Building in Old Town Clovis. For years, the artifacts were housed at Pelco Headquarters.

"The goal was to have all the items stay in the Central Valley. The story is intrigal to this area and it was meant to be kept here," said Erin Johnson, office administrator for McDonald Offices.

Pelco by Schneider Electric announced last year that the artifacts would be moved and turned over to former C.E.O. David McDonald.

Since 2002, survivors and families of those lost in September 2001 have donated them as a way of saying "Thank you."

For the past several days, workers here have put each piece carefully into place inside the new space. They did their best to keep similar items together so the museum had a nice flow.

"We realized that after putting it up that not only do we have a much more expansive display, but now so many more people in the local area and California and even from out of state are going to get to enjoy this collection," said Johnson.

One of those is Gara Cross. She's never seen the collection and decided to stop to admire all the artifacts during her coffee break. Her son went to Ground Zero the day after the 9/11 attacks to help with search and rescue efforts.

"Speechless and kinda teary, emotional because it's... I saw it on TV," said Cross.

The museum is open any time the lobby at the Veterans Memorial Building is open.
