A line of job hunters stretched out the door and around the sidewalk of the FresnoConvention Center, some eager for a chance at a better job and others just hoping for anything.

"You know I’ve got to do something to get some money. So that's why I'm down here. Maybe I can pass this test and maybe get a job," said job seeker Chris Michelson.

Five hundred new jobs became available this week when state health care program Covered
California announced a call center would be located in Fresno.

"I'm very excited by the turn out, I'm glad we have the interest here in
Fresno," said Katherine Minnich with Covered California.

Among the hundreds in line was Jim Mccolgan, who drove all the way from
Sacramento looking to land his first job in over a year.

"Me and my wife just drove down here this morning, spent the day down in
Fresno, and then I’m here to take a test," said Mccolgan.

A test measuring the skills and experience of applicants had some in line nervous but for Chris Michelson, nervousness has long since been replaced by need.

"I don't know how I feel sitting at a desk answering the phone but I’m pretty good at talking to people so I’ll give it a try," said Michelson.
