Jobs that could have landed anywhere in the state are officially headed to Fresno. The state health program Covered California announced this week that about five hundred new jobs will be created when their call center opens this fall.

"I'm really excited to be a part of the team that was able to bring those jobs into town," said State Assembly Member Henry Perea.

Perea sees the new jobs as a key step for the local economy and a great chance for some of the unemployed to get back on their feet.

"This is going to provide a real opportunity for a lot of families to receive a middle class wage," said Perea.

To apply for the jobs now available, applicants first have to go online. There, at the Covered California website, they can register for a time to take a written exam Saturday at the Fresno convention center.

"So far for 2013 we are seeing some positive things," said Steven Guiterrez with the Employment Development Department.

Gutierez says there are signs the local economy is rebounding and adding five hundred more jobs will have a positive ripple effect across the valley.

"It will definitely be a big boost not just for Fresno but the local economy. Five hundred jobs especially if all those happen to be full time will definitely bode well for the community,” said Gutierez.
