Photos snapped Wednesday night provide a glimpse inside Carnegie Hall in midtown Manhattan as Fresno City College’s Wind Ensemble took center stage.  The group was invited to be part of the International Music Festival.

“It was amazing,” said Blanca Marquez, a bass clarinet player.

The 20-year old says butterflies were floating in the stomachs of she and her friends once the concert began.

“They had some solos and were just nervous and crazy about it.  I'm in the middle section, so I was able to relax a little more, but it was still nerve-racking playing in that hall,” said Blanca.

Blanca's older sister Belen, who is also a musician, became caught up in the moment.

“Just sitting in the seat and watching them play you could just feel what it was like to be up there.  It was just as good as performing,” said Belen Marquez, Blanca’s sister.

“It was awesome, just being their and seeing her perform was amazing,” said Rosalie Marquez, Blanca’s mother.

“I'm glad we were all able to go and be together as a family,” said Joe Marquez, Blanca’s father.

For the entire Marquez family, this performance was the pinnacle.  Joe and Rosalie have spent the last 15 years making sacrifices so that their daughters could succeed.

“It took a lot of time but it was well worth it because they were enjoying it, they were busy and involved and what more can you ask,” said Joe.

“Many times you're on the go, you're traveling, but to see their expressions, it's amazing,” said Rosalie.

Wishing everyone could share in their happiness, Rosalie and Blanca offered these words to parents and children.

“Support your child.  It is wonderful and it will take you places you'll never think of,” said Rosalie.

“Just find something that you love and something you have a passion for.  Not something you're forced to do, something that really just drives you,” said Blanca.

Generous community members helped make the trip to New York possible.  Their donations covered a large chunk of the travel expenses which totaled nearly $100,000.
