Rallies taking place in Washington DC and right here in the Valley over immigration reform.
A bi-partisan group of senators known as "the gang of eight" is working to craft a final bill. The call for reform is also being heard right here at home.
Central Valley immigrant rights activists hit the streets of Fresno with an important message.
They protested in front of senator Dianne Feinstein's Fresno office.
They want Washington to fix what they call a broken system.
"To tell the Senate, to tell the Congress it's time for immigration reform," said Leonel Flores, a protestor.
Local coalition leaders walked up to Feinstein's office with a call to action and a demand for reform.
"Marches, demonstrations, pressure on the government...that's the only way you can really make a change," said Torivio Mondragon with United Farm Workers of America.
The SEIU says immigration reform is a top priority. They believe millions of undocumented workers in the US are exploited. The union held 14 rallies across the state and a couple hundred more across the nation.
"So that on all levels, local and national they're hearing our voice," said Jared Rivera with the SEIU.
Senator Feinstein is a staunch supporter of immigration reform. She's in Washington and issued the following statement.
"I have not seen the details of the bill produced by the bi-partisan group of eight senators, but
the chairman of the Judiciary Committee has said there will be a hearing on it next week and I look forward to reading the details of the bill."
Valley Congressman Jim Costa also supports reform and senses that change is in the air back in Washington.
"Supporters of comprehension immigration reform should obviously continue to make their voices heard and hopefully we in Congress will be able to come together to fix what has been a problem for decades.
Congressman Costa said if there's an agreement, they'll hopefully have a bi-partisan package by the end of June.
