Good news for the Castle Airport in Merced County.
The Federal Aviation Administration will delay the closures of about 150 small air-traffic control towers.
Because congress agreed to slow the growth of federal deficit spending many smaller airports like Castle, were slated to lose their air controllers this month.
Its all part of the sequester law.
Most of the small airports cater to private planes and have limited commercial service, but now that the date has been pushed back to June, it means good news for Castle.
"This is obviously very welcoming news but we also need to keep in perspective that this is just a reprive and in that respect it give the industry more time and hopefully our federal official more time to come up with a better solution," Mark Hendrickson said.
Even if the FAA goes through with the planned cuts in June, the smaller airports will remain open, they just won't have manned air- traffic control towers.
