The final snowpack survey of the season taken near Lake Tahoe shows the state is only at 52% of normal for this time of year.
That's the lowest April survey since 2007, which was the start of a 3-year drought.
Frank Gehrke with the Department of Water Resources said, "Clearly not good news, but of course that comes as no surprise considering that our January through March precipitation has certainly, in many areas, been the lowest that we have records for."
The good news is that the state's reservoirs are doing okay, but hydrologists say another dry winter next year could spell trouble.
