Ahlia Cha in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit listed in critical, but stable condition. She is expected to survive.
The 8-year old was injured during a drive-by shooting Thursday morning on 4th St. near Thomas Ave.. Police say she was sleeping in the living room of her house when the gunmen pulled up and fired more than two dozen bullets.
Ahlia was struck two times, once in the arm and once in the stomach.
Investigators believe one of her older brothers was the target. Police do not think they are currently wrapped up in a gang, but do have past ties to Southeast Asian gangs.
“This could have very well been retaliation for some type of past incident,” said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Officers are putting a lot of pressure on known gang members right now to try and find some evidence that will solve this case.
“We're serving search warrants, probation searches and our detectives have made contact with over a hundred residences. We're going to continue to do everything we can to bring justice to this family,” said Chief Dyer.
Police say this is the first shooting involving Southeast Asian gangs in Fresno this year. The suspect or suspects face an attempted murder charge as well as several other felony counts.
There is a $2,000 reward being offered for information leading to an arrest.
