“There's a lot of thoughts, you never expect anything like this to happen," said Sarah’s father, Rusty Roberts.
Sarah Kay Roberts was an innocent by stander who was shot to death by a gang member on New Years Day one year ago. Exactly who killed her remains a mystery.
Fresno Police Chief, Jerry Dyer says even with a $2,000 reward, there are few leads on this case.
“When you have rival gangs involved in a shooting and an innocent person involved, very few people are willing to come forward with information,” said Chief Dyer.
And while the healing process takes time, Sarah's father says it was a comment made by her daughter that brought him to tears.
“If she could tell her mom anything what would she tell her, and she said if she could come back," said Sarah’s father.
Much like the balloons Sarah's daughter released at the memorial, long awaited justice seems out of reach, but Chief Dyer says he wants to assure the Roberts family they will do everything they can to solve this case.
“We have not given up, we have not forgotten," said Chief Dyer.
The Roberts family relies heavily on their faith in God.
“As assurance that the sun comes up, your love is with us everyday.”
And with that faith, Sarah's father says he takes comfort in knowing the truth will always come to light.
“In time, if it's not here it will be later, justice will be served,” said Sarah’s father.
