Sanger Police and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department are working together to try and solve a murder. The crime happened in the city of Sanger near the corner 9th and L Streets.
Police are not saying what may have lead to this murder. However, relatives of the woman killed believe it’s a case of domestic violence that took a tragic turn.
Detectives were out until 7:00 Sunday evening collecting evidence at an apartment off L Street. It’s the aftermath to a call which came in around 9 a.m., that’s when police were asked to check if everything was ok at the complex.
“When our officers arrived they entered the residence they found a deceased female,” explained Sgt. Greg Velasquez of Sanger Police.
“She’s outgoing and funny. We grew up together, she was like my sister,” said Michael Garcia, the victim’s cousin.
Michael Garcia says the victim is his cousin, 41-year old Sandra Cantu. Garcia says Cantu was married for two years. He and other relatives noticed she and her husband had problems in their relationship.
“But we really didn’t want to get involved unless she asked us because she never really asked us. She kept it real hush,” said Garcia.
Police would like to ask her husband some questions, but have not been able to find him. Sgt. Velasquez is hoping the public can help turn up some new leads.
“Anybody that may know information regarding what occurred last night, may have heard something last night or know things related to this residence, we’d appreciate a phone call to the Sanger Police Department,” said Sgt. Velasquez.
Cantu’s family says at this point, answers are the only thing than can ease their pain.
“We just miss her, especially in this time of the holiday season. She’s going to be greatly missed by her cousins, aunt, mom, dad and especially her daughter,” said Garcia.
