“Anything the community can do to help us would be greatly appreciated,” said Poverello House Director Kathryn Weakland.
Poverello is asking the community to help collect at least 2000 turkeys to feed a growing homeless population this holiday season.
So far, the freezer is pretty much bare.
“As of yesterday morning, we were at 15 so we've got a long way to go to get us over 2000 and really-if we can collect 2500 turkeys that would make such a huge difference to the Poverello House,” said Weakland
The rescue mission is also hurting for turkeys.
Demand is up, donations are down.
“There's more folks than we've had than in the past and so what we're experiencing, not so much single men and single women but families and so the numbers are up because of children,” said Rescue Mission
