Operation Boo keeping kids safe from predators

Wednesday is Halloween and the California Department of Corrections is preparing for "Operation Boo," their annual Halloween safety program.

The program is designed to keep kids safe from sex offenders while they trick or treat.

There are strict regulations for sex offenders on Halloween night.

Luis patino, spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections said, "They are not allowed to give out candy, to have their lights on or to have any kind of Halloween decorations. If they do, they can be arrested for it because the idea is that they're not supposed to attract any kids to their homes."

Law enforcement agencies around the state will visit the homes of sex offenders on Halloween to make sure they're complying to the rules.

Parents should keep a close eye on children on Halloween for other dangerous as well.

Police say there is an increase of pedestrian deaths on Halloween night.

Parents are encouraged to walk with their kids when they go trick or treating.

Children should also wear light colored clothing or costumes with reflective material and use face paint rather than masks.

It's also a good idea to carry a flashlight.

If you plan to be on the roads Halloween night, please slow down and watch for kids.
