California Highway Patrol and Fresno Police investigators worked into the night on McKinley Avenue, just east of Hwy. 99, to piece back together a scene.
Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, a C.H.P. officer rammed a suspect's car after trying to make a traffic stop. The situation escalated and the officer wound up shooting the driver.
The man’s name has not been released. He is described to be in his 30s and is now in the hospital listed in serious but stable condition.
“One of the things about law enforcement work is it's unpredictable. We don't know what we're stopping. Obviously there's a criminal involved in a traffic violation, so the person has a reason to be upset sometimes and sometimes those things escalate,” said Capt. Mike Reid of the Fresno Police Dept.
