A man had to be rescued from a chimney Friday morning.

A neighbor heard a man calling for help from a vacant home and it turned out he was stuck inside the chimney.

The man was trapped for nearly 10 hours at the home located near Belmont and Palm.

The man was apparently trying to hide from police the night before when they responded to reports of possible squatters in the area around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night.

Firefighters say the man climbed in from the top of the chimney and got stuck about half way down.

It wasn't until the next day when a neighbor walking her dog heard a voice coming from the house.

Rescue crews were able to get the man to put on a harness and pulled him back up through the opening.

If that didn't work, their next plan would have been to break the chimney down.

Police say they will continue to monitor the area for squatters.
