A homeless man accused of murdering the Good Samaritan that gave him shelter is now in custody.

56-year old Don Anderson is a convicted felon and known drug addict.

He's accused of killing 62-year-old Michael Weisser, whose body was found Monday in his southeast Fresno home.  Weisser was well-known in the community for helping the homeless.

Anderson is in the Fresno county jail after officers arrested him at the Rite Aid drug store at Blackstone and Olive in central Fresno.

We spoke to pastor Tim Sumner, the Weisser family's spokesperson, about the arrest.

“I know that the wiesser family will rest a lot better and add more strength to the situation in a positive way,” said Pastor Tim Sumner of the International Worship Center.

Weisser's neighbors are also greatly relieved.

“I'm just thrilled that they found his murderer and that justice has done its job,” said Robin Caskey, the victim's neighbor.

How Anderson was caught is pretty amazing.  Just before noon officers had dropped off a flyer with the suspect’s picture at the Rite Aid telling employees to be on the look out.

Sure enough, 30 minutes later an alert worker spotted a man that looked like Anderson wearing sunglasses and a hat.  The employee immediately called police.

Sumner believes his effort to get involved is a bi-product of people being fed up with crime.

“I think that's where we're at.  I think that's where the city is at.  The Fresno Police Department working with the community hand in hand is a wonderful thing.  Now the city can rest tonight knowing this individual is behind bars,” said Sumner.

In addition to murder, Anderson faces a kidnapping charge for allegedly abducting Weisser's wife at knifepoint.  She was later found safe.
