"I've been really fortunate to accomplish any goals that there is in my sport, from gold medals to national championships," said Coach Margie Wright.
After coaching Fresno State Women's Softball for 27 years, Coach Margie Wright retires. She led Fresno State to nearly 1300 victories.
"They're replacing a legend and the most successful coach in college softball history," said Ron Scott, Baseball Coach at Fresno City College. His daughter, Amanda Scott pitched for Fresno State when they won their first ever NCAA title in 1998, with Coach Wright.
"My initial reaction was just how excited I am for her actually, I think she's done so many great things for the sport," said Amanda Scott.
But it wasn't always easy, Coach Wright was one in a string of female coaches that sued the University under Title IX. Wright said she was discriminated, harrassed, under paid and her department under funded. Despite the fact that there's only one Division I coach who's won more games than her ever, in any college sport, mens or women's.
"She fought for what she believed and women's sports are probably better because of Margie Wright," said Coach Ron Scott.
"I feel very, very, very good about my days here and I hope that the community feels the same way," said Coach Wright.
