Fresno Police are searching for suspects after two separate shootings Friday morning at two hotels.
A man, 28, died at the hospital from a gunshot wound after a shooting at the Parkland Hotel near Shields and Freeway 99 just before 3:30AM, police said. Minutes later, another man was shot during a party at the San Joaquin Hotel near Shaw and Arthur, police said. At least one of the shootings appears to be gang-related, they said.
Charles Sullivan says he's glad to be moving out of the area after hearing the gunshots fired at the Parkland Hotel.
"I went outside this morning, smoked a cigarette, and you know... you just hear pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," said Sullivan.
The victim, whose named has not be released by investigators, died within minutes of arriving at the hospital, police said. Police say the shooting appears to be gang-related.
Sullivan told CBS47 that he last saw the victim working on a white Lexus in the hotel's parking lot several days ago. He wore a black and red hat like the one seen surrounded by evidence markers hours after Friday's shooting, he said.
"It's sorta scary, you know what I mean. Cause we coulda been down stairs in the other room and the bullet went right through and hit one of us," said Sullivan.
Just minutes after the shooting at the Parkland Hotel, another man was shot while attending a party with at least 15 other people at the San Joaquin Hotel about five miles away, police said. Investigators believe the shooter stood near some bushes and fired several shots up toward a second floor balcony.
"It was somebody who was passing by. Maybe left the party. We're just unsure," said Fresno Police Sgt. Brian Rogers.
One neighbor told CBS47 that he called to complain about the noise three times.
Phillip Clark was watching some music videos inside his home when the shots rang out.
"I heard three really loud gunshots. It sounded like it was right next to my window. And it kinda freaked me out," said Clark.
The man shot near Shaw and Arthur was taken to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
An autopsy on the body of the man shot at the Parkland Hotel is scheduled for Saturday, a spokesman for the Fresno County Coroner's Office said.
